My Gift

Image
This week has been full of overwhelming comprehension of the goodness of God.  More than once this week, I've had to pinch myself to make sure I'm not dreaming.  If I'm honest, I've been pinching myself for well over a year.  I am living out my heart's desire and it is so beautiful.  God's faithfulness is being proven to me over and over with each new day. I am a believer, a dreamer of dreams.  I know that the Lord has promised certain things to me and I've worked hard to be obedient to His calling.  It hasn't always made sense to me.  Sometimes I've had to leap into the darkness with no idea of what might break my fall.  It's been lonely and scary at times.  And, there have been moments when I wanted to give up hope and stop believing in dreams.  But, the Lord is faithful and He loves His children.  All good and perfect gifts come down from Heaven. In less than five weeks, I will join hands with the man of my dreams and become ...

My Dad

I've been working on a novel in my spare time for the last couple of months. As a writer, I often draw on personal experience for my characters and storylines. I want to share a very brief excerpt from my work in progress. Today, my Dad posted an article on his Facebook about "The Perfect Parent". I think, sometimes, he feels like he has to be the perfect parent. But, as there are no perfect people, there can be no perfect parents. But, my parents are really great parents. They have taught me so much. I want to share this story in the life of "Daniella", my fictional character. It's very brief, but it's very much based on something that actually happened in my life. I hope it gives you a picture of my Dad and the very powerful lessons I've learned from him. Here it is... Daniella sat stunned as her car finally came to a halt. It had happened in slow motion, or at least it had seemed so to her. There were sounds of tires squealing, glass sh...

Don't worry...I'm right behind you

I had the honor, today, of attending the funeral of a man who walked 93 years on this earth. I can't even begin to imagine the things he saw in his lifetime. I wonder what he must have thought as he saw the world go through so many changes. His obituary stated that he had nine hobbies: his wife, his seven children, and his church. What a legacy to leave. He was a military man, a business man, and a community leader, but what he loved was his wife, his seven children, and his church. I am blessed to know one of his children and two of his grandchildren. I can see his legacy in them. What touched me the most, this week, as I heard stories of his passing, was of a comment his wife of 70 years made to him in his last days. I'm told that she told him it was ok to let go, not to worry because, "I'm right behind you". How beautiful. I'm sure that is not a comforting thought for their children who are still grieving the loss of their father, but somehow, it r...

Our Angel (Ansley's Song)

On Christmas Eve, 2009, our family was blessed with a precious little angel. This last year has been amazing. I've loved getting to see so many of her firsts and watch her experience the world through a fresh and untainted lens. A few months before she was born, I was hanging out at my house when a song idea and melody popped into my head. I jumped up from the couch and sat down to write a song for my soon to be born niece. Sometimes, when I write music, I write from the perspective of someone else. In this case, I tried to put myself in the shoes of my brother (Daniel) and sister-in-law (Katie) as they were expecting their first child. I thought about how much we all already loved this little baby and were looking forward to her arrival. And, I thought about the hopes and dreams of Katie's Abuela (Grandmother) as she had hoped and prayed for a baby with Daniel's eyes and Katie's curls. This song is what followed. I hope you enjoy it. Ansley Katherine, Aunt Ch...

Luke's Lullaby

One of the greatest joys in my life right now is being Aunt Christy to some precious little ones. The song below was written for my dear friend Holly's son, Luke. I love getting to sing him to sleep. It's such a precious time for me. Last week, Luke's dad, Michael, and I took to the studio to record this song. I hope you enjoy it! My Brother

I've been a big sister since just before I turned 4. When my parents brought Daniel home from the hospital, I was a little disappointed that his blanket was blue - not pink. But, that disappointment was short lived and I stepped into my role as big sister. It's a fun job. I had the opportunity to witness a milestone in the life of my brother last weekend - a milestone that highlighted the role of siblings in each other's lives. On Sunday, we had a baby dedication for Ansley Katherine in which we had the opportunity to commit to help them raise her in the ways of the Lord. It was a precious, precious time. As I stood and watched my brother sit there with his wife and little girl, I couldn't help but think of the other milestones I've witnessed in his life. I remembered when he really came to understand the power of God in his life. I was in awe of a middle school boy who boldly presented the Gospel to his friends. I remember being challenged by the way he hel...
