Disclaimer: This is a personal journey of discovery for me. I am not claiming any special wisdom or exposition of my own, only sharing how 31 days of wisdom affect me and stir my spirit. I highly suggest, no matter who is speaking or sharing, that you check their words against the words of Scripture.

Proverbs 6

If you have guaranteed something for someone else, you have become their servant. You have no control over their actions. So, if you have done this, make sure that they live up to your word. Make sure that you pursue them until they fulfill the contract and free you. Then, don’t do it again. (v1-5)

Learn from others. Learn from nature. No one tells the ant what to do; it knows it will have need in the winter so it works hard in the summer. (v6-8)
A little sleep is good, but if you sleep away your days, poverty and scarcity will overtake you. Work hard for what you need. (v9-11)

There are people who like conflict. There are people who stir up strife on purpose. They speak lies and corruption, they are dishonest and misleading, their word means nothing. People like this are destined to be destroyed. (v12-15)

“There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to Him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.” (v16-19)

Keep the teachings of your parents. Meditate on them. Don’t misplace them. They will guide, comfort, and watch over you. They will speak to you when you need them. They are light and life. (v20-23)

Stay away from another’s spouse; keep away from wayward people. (v24)

Lust is a gateway drug. Don’t even look upon someone else’s spouse. Don’t let
their beauty captivate you. Adultery eats away at your very life. (v25)

Flirting with adultery is like playing with fire. You will get burned! (v27-29)

A sin outside of the body may cost you all of your possessions, no matter your reasons for committing them. (v30-31)

Adultery, sexual sins, are committed against yourself. If you engage in them, you have no sense. You will always bear shame. (v32-34)

The theft of a spouse can not be repaid; there is no price high enough. There will be no mercy. (v34-34)

Dear Father of Wisdom,
I don’t want to be someone who seeks out or rejoices in conflict. Keep my heart focused on You. Lead me in Your ways, Lord. Keep my conscious sharp so that I will reject sin and spare myself heartache and separation from You. Amen.
